This compound is often used in the preparation of gel stains for protein gel electrophoresis. Effective as a buffer with Acetic acid in the range of pH 3.6 - 5.6. Studies on microbial pili sμggest that sodium acetate suppressed K99 production in E. coli strains cultured on a minimal medium.
